Do you want to modernise your bathroom but dread the idea of a full remodel? You are not alone. In fact, according to recent reports, almost 60% of Australian homeowners hit the same snag every year.
The good news? Innovative Splashbacks can quickly and inexpensively recreate the look and feel of the bathroom you've envisioned whilst still being functional, safe and durable.
Our stunning acrylic polymer splashbacks and decorative wall panels are completely waterproof, easy to install, simple to maintain - and PVC free. And they come in an amazing array of colours and image options to suit all tastes. They offer a stylish, seamless look of glass without the cost and fragility, too.
In this guide, we’ll look at the advantages acrylic splashbacks and wall panels have over glass, tiles and other splashback products. We’ll also explore creative ways Innovative Splashbacks turn your ordinary bathroom into a personal spa-like retreat, as well as expert tips to choose the right panels for your space.
Why Choose Acrylic Splashbacks & Wall Panels for Your Bathroom?
Many Australian homeowners would rather not choose tiles because grout can harbour dirt and bacteria. And as most know, tiles and grout are hard to clean and keep clean. And while glass splashbacks are a great option, they can be very expensive, and lead times are often too long. Plus, there’s the issue of not being able to adjust them on-site. These are all issues which are resolved by our splashbacks and wall panels.
Here’s why our acrylic splashbacks and wall panels are a fantastic choice for your bathroom.
Easy to Install - Perfect for DIY'ers
All our splashbacks are cut to size, and are lightweight, at just 7 kg per square metre, so require less labour to install. They are large wall panels and they are installed without grout. They can also be applied over existing tiles, glass or aluminium composite panels.
We also provide you with all the guidance and resources you need to create your own dream bathroom. This cost-effective, hands-on approach allows you to take charge of your project and complete the job on time, even if you have zero trade background.
Supplied cut to size and Shape & Can Be Cut & Trimmed On-Site if required
Acrylic splashbacks can be cut on-site if need be, unlike glass which cannot be cut once toughened.
Our acrylic splashbacks and wall panels are supplied cut to size and ready to install - and you can also adjust the panel if required as well as cutting your own power points and tapholes at the point of installation.
If you choose to cut or need to trim the panels yourself you have the option of purchasing full sheets instead of cut-to-size panels. This allows you to cut and adjust power points and tapholes yourself to your liking at the point of installation. And all this can be done easily with basic wood working tools.
Total Design Freedom & Full Customer Control
Innovative Splashbacks are extremely customisable. You can choose any colour from any paint range such as Dulux, Wattyl, Taubmans, Haymes or the Resene range just to name a few. This includes solid colours, metallic and pearlescent finishes.
You can also choose any high resolution image, graphic or pattern you desire. We can even replicate the look of marble, stone or tiles.
Our splashbacks give you an opportunity to put a stamp on the room which is uniquely yours.
Easy to Clean
Our acrylic splashbacks and wall panels are a completely smooth, waterproof and non-porous surface. They are installed without grout, offering a seamless, easy to clean finish which requires very low no maintenance.
This means never again will you have to scrub grout ever. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is all it takes to restore the pristine look in your bathroom. Additionally, since they don’t rely on grout, the issue with pesky mould is a thing of the past.
High Gloss Finish or Matte Finish - the choice is yours
Acrylic splashbacks from Innovative Splashbacks are printed or painted on the rear instead of the front. Painting on the rear gives them depth and a sleek, high-gloss finish comparable to glass splashbacks.
It also helps protect the paint or image from being scratched off or chipped by the elements. This is why the colour on these materials stays clean, contemporary and vibrant years after installation.
And you can choose either a high gloss finish or a matte finish - the choice is all yours to make.
Non Toxic, Inert & PVC Free
Our splashbacks and wall panels are made from cast PMMA acrylic. They are inert (do not gas off at any time during their lifecycle), PVC & Vinyl free and free of any other nasties - making them safe for you, your family and the environment.
Beware of PVC Wall Panels
You may have noticed cheap PVC wall panels creeping into the Australian market. Be very cautious. PVC contains carcinogens amongst a range of other hazardous chemicals that’s detrimental to humans from start to finish. No wonder that it is known as ‘poison plastic’. And they are harmful at every point of their lifecycle.
Acrylic Bathroom Splashback & Wall Panel Design Ideas :
Now on to the fun stuff! Here’s our top ideas for adding a touch of opulence to your bathroom. Feel free to incorporate them into your renovation design and see how instantly you will give your bathroom a new lease of life.
Go Timeless
Trends can be quite elusive. If you don’t want to chase fleeting trends in vain, keep your splashback traditional and timeless. There are many ways of achieving this, whether you use simple neutral colours or a printed marble effect tiles or sophisticated monochrome schemes. We would suggest pairing them with some classic vintage-looking accessories to create a beautifully traditional aesthetic with enduring appeal.
Make It Bold
Forget playing it safe - your bathroom is your most intimate space. Add one or two shades of bold colours to create a striking point of interest across your splashback area. We think a combination of magenta or blue and teal tones paired with the acrylic high-gloss finish would create an unconventional and detailed space, perfect for showing off a bold personality. Or a stunning abstract design to define your space and make it fun and joyful.
Add Geometric Patterns
Geometric patterns create a dramatic visual effect which can make even a small bathroom space feel dynamic and well-designed. With shapes like hexagons, diamonds or chevrons, you can add structure and texture without the need for busy decoration. They work particularly well as feature splashbacks behind vanities or baths, adding a modern touch to your splashback.
Rock It
Instead of finding problems with the natural rock why not embrace it for a one-of-a-kind splashback. Acrylic splashbacks can be painted and printed to mimic the natural stones such as granite and travertine. The colours and texture of the exposed stone inject rawness and warmth to a bathroom, creating an instant sense of interest.
Even think about adding textural layers to your bathroom space by having a concrete effect printed onto your splashback wall panels.
Go Beach Style
Don’t say you are not blessed with sea views outside your bathroom window. You can simply have this as the splashback of your bath. Bring the calm, breezy feel of the coast with gentle waves over sandy pebbles and enjoy the view all year round. Beach-inspired splashbacks work beautifully with white cabinetry, timber accents and brushed nickel or chrome fixtures.
Add Shell Effect
For a subtle touch of glamour, consider a shell or pearlescent effect splashback. A gorgeous, shell-like effect for the bathroom is a beautiful injection of depth and character. Ideal for modern and classic bathrooms alike, it creates a gentle shimmer and does not overpower the space.
Things to Know When Choosing Bathroom Splashbacks & Wall Panels
Not every splashback and wall panel will be suitable for every bathroom. Here are some key things to know before buying bathroom splashbacks and wall panels:
The Size of Your Space
For smaller bathrooms, lighter colours and patterns work best, as they create an illusion of a bigger space. Conversely, larger bathrooms offer more freedom to experiment with darker tones without feeling enclosed.
Your Bathroom Ceiling Height
Consider the height of your bathroom ceilings as well. Vertical designs can make low ceilings feel higher, while horizontal elements expand the visual boundaries of the room.
Also make sure your splashback wall panels can fit through the door!
Think About Lighting
A bathroom with abundant natural light can handle deeper, richer colours which might look dull or murky in a dimly lit space. For bathrooms with little natural light, high-gloss finishes work best to brighten up the space.
Match Your Fixtures
Your splashback and wall panels need to coexist in harmony with the fixtures and fittings already in your bathroom. This includes the colour and style of your vanity, the finish of your tapware (chrome, matte, brass), your flooring material, mirror frames, shower screens, and even your towel rails. Coordinate your splashback design to complement these features.
Think Long-Term
Plan ahead about how your needs might evolve over the coming years when selecting your bathroom splashback design. If you plan on selling your home then choose designs with broad appeal which will not alienate potential buyers. But if this is your forever home, you have more freedom to express your personality, taste and character, though it’s still best to avoid extremely trendy designs which may soon go outdated.
